The Kenosha Writers’ Group

Meeting of 8/22/08

August 23rd, 2008 · 14 Comments

To all female and male peoples:

Business started the meeting, discussing the Web Site . All agreed keep it going!.

Francisco will learn Joe and he will lean all us good people how to post for our writings.

Tammy P informed us the proof for the Anthology will be forwarded in a few days and if we have any corrections, please respond by next friday or forever, never speak another word.

A male person suggested a disclaimer or what have you when you post on the site as to dissuade a reader that it really was not there (published).

It was suggested we start a youth writers group to teach (great idea) and  Chris agreed to teach it on a Sat. More discussion  and please comments to get this started promptly.

Jeff gladly stated he’d take over the duties of Treasurer for the Lulu account. He and Tammy can transfer as needed.

We  had a nice number of readers (names not to be mentioned) with compelling and stimulating subjects, and well thought out suggestions to consider for improvement. This is especially important as to all of us wanting to improve be the best, so lets keep this up. All comments were well received and appreciated, but alas comments concerning my reading were unnecessary, as my good stuff is at all times great, perfect, interesting- the best. I am willing to learn however, being a humble male person and no need for me to sugarcoat my sagacity.

O.K. Folks thats all — see you in the funny papers if not at the next meeting in September, third thursday( being the 18th.) at 6:30 P.M. at the Nook. GET HOOKED ON THE NOOK everone and be there!! O.K, O.K.

P.S. I believe there is an open reading at the Nook each monday evening at 7 p.m. if my sources are befitting of correctness. If such data is imperfect, please someone note such with the comme il faut data. Thanks.

    Bill,

    Bill,

My sagacity??? Only you could turn the monotonous into something so interesting. You have a flair for note taking and have my vote to remain our primary scribe. I shall endeavor to hold up my end of the bargain….

Darn! I figured someone without thinking would comment on the horrific spelling or lack there of or sentence structure or, or…..
and they would have to take over the duty as warned concerning the Moose Patty Pie–but good, but good!!However I’m not done with all this so beware the Jabberwock, the Jaws that bite, the claws that catch, beware the Jubjub bird, and shun the frumious Bandersnach!\my friends…

Salutations! fellow female and male writers ~
I would also like to add that I am the new contact person for the WRWA, {Wisconsin Regional Writers Association} if there is any exciting news, any of you would like me to report for our group, please email me at ladywriter510@aol.com.
I hope to keep you abreast of things happening within that association. you can check them out at www.wrwa.net. They have an upcoming fall conference. Speakers from the WRWA will be on Wisconsin Public Radio, on Tuesday, September 16, @ 11:00 a.m. to discuss the event.
Also, I liked Lisa’s idea of a Writer’s Group open reading at “The Nook” It could be a good ice breaker for future public readings.
    Have a happy Sunday,
    Suzanne :))

    Suzanne,

Thanks for mentioning WRWA!! Appreciate it.

The beauty of Bill’s summary is that it’s as varied, interesting and amusing as the actual meeting was (and always is)! I hope that the idea of a Writers’ Group open mic event will become a reality; there’s a wealth of amazing material that’s read at our meetings. It would be a shame not to share it with the community!

    Yes Lisa! I agree.
Oh, I forgot to mention, I like Bill’s “Get Hooked on The Nook.” It makes me think we should have “The Nook” writer’s group T-shirts or something….
    :))

Now there’s a great idea!!! Is it possible?

  • 8 Tammy // Aug 27, 2008 at 4:13 pm

The Nook has an open mic every Monday from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. You are all welcome to read… And we have cheesecake!

    Thank You…
Suzanne, Lisa, Tammy, Jodi, and, of course, Bill and Rick.
You Good People contribute and make a difference.

As I sit, no doubt a bit annoyed, punching the keys on my telephone one at a time because the wife and I agreed to let the internet service on the main computer end (I don’t care for Sprint at all these days)…

I sit back and think how nice it has been to live like a normal person (or a close as I can get). It’s been nice to make headway on my writing, share some real and much needed time with my wife, and reconnect with the writer’s group as best as I could with a visit to the Nook when time allowed (I’ll extend a thank you to Tammy and Francisco at this point).

The trouble is, I will also spend my day not questioning my past contributions to this site, but wondering if the method chosen to illicit this one was of the wisest courses of action.

One of these evenings I will escape for one of your meetings. I think having your group is very important for the lost art of writing, providing for those that enjoy it and sharing it with others, and of course any progress in the humanities is a plus for the community. I do keep tabs on you…lol…keep up the good work, and you have much to be proud of.

  • 12 Joe // Aug 28, 2008 at 9:33 am

Question away, Eric, anything and everything!
We heard from you again. I call that a plus, and a bonus.
Hope all is well with you and yours and we can benefit from both your words and presence again, soon.

I’m so excited that the open mic at The Nook is EVERY Monday night! I’m determined to make it there soon, and maybe work up enough courage to read something…

    1. Is the Nook having open mike on Labor Day Monday?
    2. Thank you to everyone in the group for making me feel like I belong. You’ve all been so encouraging and so kind.
