The Kenosha Writers’ Group announces the launch of their new website.
The Kenosha Writers’ Group has been meeting in Kenosha for two years. The group was born in the Southwest Library with about eight people and within three months had grown to outnumber the chairs in the room. We moved location to the Pollard Gallery’s loft and settled into a group determined by membership. We shared stories and supported one another in our quest to become better writers. The Kenosha Writers’ Group currently meets at Mo’s Lounge on the third Thursday of every month, from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.
The group was started by local writer and teacher Colleen Kappeler and members of her various workshops and classes. “As students continued to come from everywhere for writing classes, I recognized a demand for a writing group that could continue to encourage these writers and inspire them with others’ support of their craft,” says Colleen. Colleen currently holds a Writers’ Circle at the Nook Café on the third Wednesday of each month. Please contact Colleen at contact@colleenkappeler.com for more information.
Members of the group receive critical feedback about their work and support throughout the writing process. The new website will help to promote the writing of the group’s members, as well as reach out to other writers in the Kenosha area and offer them a place within the group. Please contact Tammy Peacy for more information about joining the Kenosha Writers’ Group.
The Kenosha Writers’ Group has released their second annual anthology entitled “Eclecticy,” available for purchase at Lulu.com.

Take another bow, Tammy.
The Spotlight page is a great idea.
I can’t wait to see who shows up next.

Yo Scribes,
I have a rudimentary question for you, all of you.
What part of “Comment” do you Not understand?
The web designer took the time and trouble to explain the website along with it’s interactive nature and steps you can take to make it successful.
One of those steps is to comment on the website.
Not a one of you have taken the time or trouble to do so. Hang your head. This is a symbiotic relationship.
The website can help the group. The website and the group can help you. There will be no spontaneous communication. You have to do something.
Get off your tush. Get out of the corner. Pull your thumb out of your mouth, and strike a key or two on the keyboard.
If you have a pulse, you can type.
Comment. NOT by “Reply”. Comment on the website.
Be functional. Do something.
Joe

At the very least…
I would hope you could demonstrate some basic, common manners.
Have enough common courtesy to read Bill’s delightful piece and comment.
If you have nothing to say, tell us, online.
Joe

Holy Cow! Son of the gun! Darn! We just got slapped by Joe and with all the reason in the world. I am amiss for not doing my part for comments. Thanks Joe for getting me off dead center and in the flow.
First off Francisco did a drop dead job in telling us all about the site and with so much enthusiam. The work involved I could not believe. As noted by both Francisco and Joe Barr, its for all of us and the whole community. We must be involved and therefore I will try and intend to comment on items and will , in fact, do it because that is why I’m in the group. For example, the comments on my Spotlight story, man it makes me want to write and write with so many people behind me. Thanks and now I’ve got to do the same for all of you.! And Tammy, what a gal- she is the person that keeps us going with all the tips she emails out, to say nothing of vast amount of work she does is so many areas. Thanks!!

I never condoned prodding someone to get something done. Don’t believe it. Either they will or they won’t, and no amount of brow beating, ass woopin, or mental flaggellantion will change it. That’s just the way it is. We’re lazy and it’s inherrant to our species when it comes to doing more than providing the basic necessities.
That is until there is an awaking in our soul and a spark is kindkled or an idea is germinated in our brains. Then we become lemming-like, incessant with purpose and undeniable in our efforts to succeed until death final grinds us to a screeching halt.
My fellow writers, there is a change upon the winds and I’m feeling lemmingish. I have this burning desire to find the nearest cliff and take the leap into the vastness of cyberspace. Don’t you feel it too? Could it be that Francisco’s seed is germinating?
Help it grow. Write a posting. Thrill me. Scare me. Make me cry in wonderment or gnash my teeth in anger. Com’n, give it a try. You can do it!

Well…
Much to say, but… Isn’t it ironic, that as a hopeful writer, I haven’t been able to find the words?
This website lead me to a group of people that have already to be… *grin* If you’ll pardon the expression, important beyond words.
I rushed home from this month’s meeting, giddy with excitement over having met people that were ‘like me!’. No longer did I feel quite so lonely in this quest to truly enjoy putting words on paper. It felt like I had found a home, and wonderful it is.
All at once, read the spotlight piece, ordered the anthology (Read Tammy’s delightful piece last night, and tonight discussed the true wonder of size 7.5’s with my Fiancee and her Grandmother). Rick… How could I not order your books? Admittedly, I’m a slow reader, but as soon as I’m through with the anthology, I’m on to those.
Started on my own story again, too. Progress is slow, but… It is progress.
*grin* I never get enough done, quick enough, or well enough, but… With yall’s help, I’m enjoying what I am doing immensely.
Looking forward to seeing you after I take the vows!

Just stumbled onto the site and put the third Thursday of the month on my calendar. If the wind don’t change and the creek don’t rise, I ought to be able to wander by and meet a few other local writers.
By way of introduction, I’m a technical writer… I write user’s manuals (mostly for software). While I’m really good at writing user’s manuals, I regrettably seem to lack connection to the muse for other types of writing. However, a tiny little spark seems to have appeared so I’m working to fan it into the white-hot flame I so admire in others. So far, it’s just smoldering…
I’m a scruffy old fart with a wide variety of interests, trying to figure out a way to achieve my long-term career objective of “dabbler”. So far I’ve only achieved amateur status or perhaps entered the secondary category of poseur.
On an entirely unrelated note, the link to the Pollard Gallery is broken… it should be http://www.rhodeopera.com/pollard-gallery.shtml

We had a spirited meeting for the Oct/17/08 session. Those who read- read and received comments from members in the spirit of helping. It is beneficial because we see our writing throught the eyes of others without blinders. That is what it’s all about, helping and improving.
We had a comment on SPOTLIGHT and that it was the first item viewed. It appeared the person received a memo and this brought up that portion of the site first. In reality the Kenosha Writers site has a menu from which to choose, News, About, Members, Anthology, RSS, Search, Writing prompt, Links, Comments, For immediate release as well as Spotlight. I wholeheartedly agree with that members comment, we do not want to PUSH any section on a member or outside reader. Neither do we, in my opinion, want to censor. Each reader may choose what they wish to view and read and that is as it should be.
Another comment was made as to stating too firmly to us that we should write, comment and become involved on a more or less regular basis. I think such kicks to get us going are proper and certainly keeps me in the flow. A vote was taken to determine if these comments were proper or should be deleted from the site. The majority felt no-keep them. I think again, this keeps no censorship alive and well.
Two new members joined us, one female.(I never remember names), but will certaily recall her poetry. All thought it was a 10 with real talent. Evidently Joe is constantly trolling for new members and invited her. Thanks. A Mr. Starr also attended and I remember his name because he had a comment on the site and I looked it up. He stated he just came across the site and decided to attend. The site is working!! Welcome. He has placed our monthly meeting dates on his calandar and states he will read for Novemer-excellent.
And good to see Tammy W after a long abstance.
Me!
